I Built An App Using ChatGPT In 72 Hours

I’ve given myself 72 hours to build a new app, using exclusively ChatGPT and LLM’s. I want to prove two things from doing this:

  1. Anyone can build a saas (app) in 2024

  2. You don’t need to spend months building

I’ve been sharing a lot of videos on Instagram for this challenge, but if you haven’t seen them (aside from going to watch them after reading this), here’s a quick recap of the rules I must follow.

✅ I’m only allowed to use Claude, ChatGPT and Copilot to write code

✅ Front end built with no code (bubble.io)

✅ Max 72 (working) hours to build

✅ Must launch with at least 3 functioning features

What does the app do?

It’s pretty simple really, its designed to help creators find songs to use for their short form content.

You’ll be able to paste a link to any YouTube, TikTok or Instagram short form video into the app. It will then:

1) Download the MP4 file
2) Isolate the vocals & music file, giving you a download (excluding the music)
3) Identify the name of the song, allowing you to play it in app
4) Give you the transcript for the video

I have a lot of plans for features I want to add to this app over time, but I’m focusing on these features to start. I’d also love to hear what features you’d use / want to see in this app.

As of right now, on launch, BopIt will have a free hobby plan, allowing users to create a free account, no credit card required, and download up to 5 videos per month.

If you like it, there will also be an option to upgrade, for now I’ve set this to $9.95/mo for 100 videos (For each video you get: Video mp4, Vocals MP3, Song Name & Transcript). let me know if you think this is a good price.

So, how’s it going?

Its been incredible. Over 100 people have joined the waitlist in the last 3 days, thousands of people have been following the build.

Claude 3.5 sonnet is by far the most powerful LLM for writing functioning, bug free code.

Aside from spending most of my days running ChatIQ, building this new saas has been so much fun. Its great to prove to myself again that I’m able to build something useful, and take a bit of a break from the day to day.

I’m writing this as the challenge comes to an end, but I’ll take you through the journey in the next couple of emails.

The plan is simple. Create 3 basic scripts that act as a proof of concept, then turn them into functioning, bug free, secure API’s that can be linked to bubble.io

From there, build the entire thing in public and build this newsletter, and waitlist for the app.

How am I building this?

It’s a very simple workflow really, its just prompting the LLM’s to write me the code, its very important to be able to read the code so you can find bugs & security issues etc.

The hardest part of this entire challenge is definitely deployment, its always been the bane of launching a saas for me, but im getting a lot better.

I’ve successfully built all API’s I need for this app to work, I’ve thrown together an awesome looking front end for the website.

All that’s left is a few optimizations, adding in paid plans, debugging, user accounts, and launching.

I need your help!

I want to make sure people actually use this app when its launched, I’ve been running this as a 72 hour build challenge (long form youtube video coming soon), but here’s a question for you. Would you like to see me get some early users in this challenge, or should I save that for a part 2?

This is a community project, so please let me know what features you’d like to see me add.
